1. Dalaman Train Station

Where is here? Our first stop in the list of places to visit in Dalaman is Dalaman Train Station. The train station, which is unique in the world, has an interesting story. We say that it is unique in the world, because not a single train has passed through this train station until now. As for the reason:
A Story! Abbas Hilmi Pasha was appointed as the governor of Egypt during the times when the Ottoman Empire ruled many countries such as Egypt. Abbas Hilmi Pasha, who continued his duty in the 1893’s, often took overseas trips with his yacht. During one of these trips, the way of Pasha fell to Sarsala Bay in Dalaman. Pasha, who brought his boat to the bay, liked Dalaman, which was an empty, untouched green land at that time. Pasha, who is also interested in hunting, decided to come here more often when he saw the animals roam freely in the Dalaman plain.
Pasha, who had a pier and a warehouse built in Sarsala Bay, also had a road built from the bay to Dalaman. Afterwards, he dried all the marshes in Dalaman and had eucalyptus trees planted on the roadsides, which he had specially brought from Egypt. Thus, Abbas Hilmi Pasha, who took over all the property, brought many workers from Sudan and Egypt to Dalaman in 1905 to work. Another intention of Pasha, who had a farm built for himself in Dalaman, was to have a beautiful hunting lodge built. Pasha was also considering having a train station built in Alexandria , Egypt, where he was the governor at that time.
The French were assigned to prepare the construction projects. Having finished their work, the French loaded two different projects and materials on the wrong ships; He sent the Train Station project to Dalaman and the Hunting Lodge project to Alexandria. The workers did not notice this situation and got to work as soon as possible. They realized that something went wrong near the end of the project, but it was too late. So much so that they even set up a ticket office in front of the building. However, not a single train has passed through the station since that day, because there is no railway in Dalaman!
Why should I go?
It is not known how Abbas Hilmi Pasha reacted when he saw the building; but he couldn’t bear to have the train station demolished. Dalaman Train Station, which continues its existence today, has become one of the symbols of the district with its strange story. By the way, there is a magnificent hunting lodge in Egypt where the train station should be located now. The Hunting Lodge in question is very popular among Alexandria’s tourist attractions .
Dalaman Train Station was seized by the state in 1928 and turned into the Gendarmerie Station. The station, which was used as a police station until 1958, was then transferred to the State Production Farm. Dalaman Train Station, which has undergone a series of maintenance and restoration works until today, now serves as the General Directorate of Agricultural Enterprises (TIGEM).
